Tour Description

The walled Muslim city of Harar is an ancient maze that includes 82 mosques, three of which date from the 10th century, and 102 shrines. Harar is said to be the fourth holiest of all Muslim cities. Lega Oda, near Dire Dawa, is where you can see cave paintings believed to be thousands of years old.

Tour Highlights

Day 1: Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Air port
Wow Ethiopia Tours representative will meet and take you to your hotel. Overnight Hotel.

Day 2: Addis Ababa City Tour
You will have an early breakfast and your first visit in Addis Ababa will be the National Museum. It houses numerous antiquarian relics and archaeological artifacts (most famous exhibit is the 3.5 million year old skeleton of Lucy). Then you will continue to visit Mount Entoto (3,200 above sea level. The Church of St Mary (1885) and Emperor Menelik II Palace. The Entoto Museum, with its historical exhibits is well worth a visit. Lunch at Lucy Restaurant.

After lunch you will visit Trinity Cathedral. It was constructed by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1947 (ornamented with carvings and mosaic and other artistic works such as paintings of saints and the apostles on the stained glass) and visit Merkato, the largest open market in Africa. In the evening, you will have dinner at the hotel and you will rest.
In the evening, we will host you at one of the best traditional restaurants of Addis where you can see the folk dances of the Ethiopian people and taste Ethiopian variety of meals. Overnight Hotel.

Day 3: Fly to Dire Dawa
After a relaxed breakfast, a short flight will take you to Dire Dawa. Then you will have a lunch at Dire Dawa. Drive to Harar (50km from Dire Dawa). You will arrive in Harar late in the afternoon where you will check into a hotel. Early in the evening, you will visit man feeding wild hyenas. Then you will have dinner & spend the night there. Overnight Hotel.

Day 4: Visit the Walled town of Harar
You will have an early breakfast and visit the walled city of Jegol, the house of Arthur Rimbaud (a French poetry who lived 1880's in Harar), Emperor Haile Selassie home (where he was born & raised) and Harari Cultural Museum. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Overnight Hotel.

Day 5: Drive to Dire Dawa and Visit Dire Dawa
You will have breakfast & drive to Dire Dawa (50 Km from Harar). Upon arrival, you will check into a hotel. After lunch, you will visit Dire Dawa (best known to be the mosaic of culture and the museum of people as most culture from around the country, and culture of the French, the Bulgarian, the Greek, the Armenian and the Indian are displayed in this remarkable city with the diverse architectural style of the buildings. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night in the hotel. Overnight Hotel.

Day 6: Drive back to Addis Ababa
After a relaxed breakfast, a flight will take you back to Addis Ababa.You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon where you will do some shopping for souvenirs. Finally you will be taken to a farewell dinner depending on your scheduled flight; you will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for return flight back home.
