Tour Description

Ethiopia is a paradise for birds. More than 920 different bird species have been counted, of which 16 are endemic. The high number of birds makes the sky more interesting. In addition, it is exciting and gratifying to go to the banks of the lakes and observe how the birds exist in their natural habitat.

Tour Highlights

Day 1: Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Air port
Wow Ethiopia Tours representative will meet and take you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival you can do sightseeing of Addis Ababa. Overnight hotel.

Day 2: Addis Ababa City Tour
You will have an early breakfast and your first visit in Addis Ababa will be the National Museum. It houses numerous antiquarian relics and archaeological artifacts (most famous exhibit is the 3.5 million year old skeleton of Lucy). Then you will continue to visit Mount Entoto (3,200 above sea level. The Church of St Mary (1885) and Emperor Menelik II Palace. The Entoto Museum, with its historical exhibits is well worth a visit. Lunch at Lucy Restaurant.

After lunch you will visit Trinity Cathedral. It was constructed by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1947 (ornamented with carvings and mosaic and other artistic works such as paintings of saints and the apostles on the stained glass) and visit Merkato, the largest open market in Africa. In the evening, you will have dinner at the hotel and you will rest.
In the evening, we will host you at one of the best traditional restaurants of Addis where you can see the folk dances of the Ethiopian people and taste Ethiopian variety of meals. Overnight hotel.

Day 3: Drive to Awassa /Hawassa/
In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Awassa (275 Km from Addis). En route, you will make a stop on Awash River and Lake Ziway to visit aquatic birds. You will be arriving in Awassa in the afternoon and check into a hotel. Later, you can walk along the lake shore for nice evening sunset and aquatic birds such as; Saddle-billed stork, greater jacana, African fish eagle, darter, herons, darters and Wood hoope. You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel. Overnight hotel.

Day 4: Drive to Yabelo
In the morning after breakfast, you will visit the scenic morning Fish Market in Awassa. Then you will drive to Yabelo (300 Km from Awassa) and you will stop for lunch at Hagre Mariam (200 Km from Awassa). Upon arrival in Yabelo, you will check into a motel, have dinner and spend the night at there. Overnight Motel.

Day 5: Drive to Konso
In the morning, after breakfast, you will visit El Sod (home for a large salt deposit, also called the House of Salt), and a deep crater lake where salt is extracted. You will also visit the village of the Borena people. In the afternoon after having lunch, you will drive to Konso (130 Km from Yabelo). After checking into a lodge, you will have dinner and stay the night at the lodge. Overnight Lodge.

Day 6: Drive to Jinka
In the morning, you will have breakfast and your first visit will take you to the Konso Village (famous for their colorfully costumed dresses, impressive terracing of land - recently registered as World heritage by UNISCO, and engraved wooden statues grave markers). Later, you will have lunch at Konso, then you will be driven to Jinka (180 Km from Konso) and check into a resort. You will have dinner and spend the night at the resort.

Day 7: Excursion to Mursi village through Mago National Park
In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Mursi (55 Km from Jinka) and visit to the of Mursi tribe village (popularly known for their attractive culture, women wearing large clay plates into their lower lips and the stick fight among young boys - if available at time of arrival).

Then you will drive backwards to the Mago National Park and visit the park ? only possible without rain. Then you will drive back to Jinka for lunch.

After lunch, you will visit to the nearby village and museum in Jinka. Dinner will be at the resort and you will spend the night at the resort. Overnight Lodge.

Day 8: Drive to Turmi, Hammer tribe town
After breakfast you will be driven to Turmi (142 Km from Jinka), visiting an interesting village on the way. You will continue travelling to Key Afer and visit the market. Lunch break will be at Key Afer.

You will proceed driving to Turmi visiting an interesting market place on the way ? if available at time of arrival. You will arrive in Turmi early evening and check into a lodge. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight Lodge.

Day 9: Excursion to Omorate to visit Dassench/Geleb tribe
An early morning drive will take you to Omorate to visit the Dassench/Geleb tribe (75 Km from Turmi). From there, you will take a boat trip on the Omo River and visit the Dassench/Geleb village.

Then you will get back to Turmi for lunch. You will then walk to the Hamer Village to explore the Hamer tribes (best known for elaborate hairstyles, body painting using clays and vegetable pigments to make fantastic patterns on their faces, chests, arms and legs), attend the bull jumping ? if possible and available with luck. In the evening, you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight Lodge.

Day 10: Excursion to Murille to visit Karo Village
An early morning drive will take you to Murille to visit the Karo tribe (62 Km from Turmi). Then you will get back to Turmi for lunch. In the afternoon, you will rest or do your own things on your own. In the evening you will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight Lodge.

Day 11: Drive to Araba Minch Via Arebore ? Tsmaye
After breakfast, you will be driven to Araba Minch (290 Km from Turmi) via Arebore-Tsmaye. You will stop for lunch at Konso and will proceed driving to Araba Minch, where upon arrival you will check into a lodge. Dinner will be at the lodge and you will spend the night there. Overnight Lodge.

Day 12: Visit Nech Sar National Park and Boat Trip on Lake Chamo
In the morning, after breakfast you will visit to the nearby Nech Sar National Park (a natural habitat for many wild animals: Zebra, Gazelle, & Antelope etc.). You will have lunch break at Arba Minch.

After a brief break, you will take a boat ride on Lake Chamo and visit to huge crocodiles, hippos and a variety of birdlife. In the evening you will have dinner at the lodge and stay the night there. Overnight Lodge.

Day 13: Drive to Lake Langano via Wolayta Sodo
After breakfast, you will be driven to Lake Langano (295 Km, one of the Rift Valley Lakes and the only lake that you can swim in). Upon arrival, you will check into a lodge by the lake side. In the evening you will have dinner at the lodge and stay the night there. Overnight Resort.

Day 14: Drive back to Addis Ababa
After breakfast, you will be driving to Addis Ababa. On the way, you will also visit Abiatta-Shala National Park, Lake Shala (a very deep crater lake - over 260 meters deep) and Lake Abiatta ( a soda lake with thousands of flamingos). You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon and you will do some shopping for souvenirs.
Finally you will be taken to a farewell dinner depending on your scheduled flight; you will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for return flight back home.
